The utilization of sacrificial layers to strengthen civilian structures against terrorist attacks is of great interest to engineering experts in structural retrofitting. The sacrificial cladding structures are designed to be attached to the façade of structures to absorb the impact of the explosion through the facing plate and the core layer progressive plastic deformation. Therefore, blast load striking the non-sacrificial structure could be attenuated. The idea of this study is to construct a sacrificial cladding structure from multicellular hybrid tubes to protect the prominent bearing members of civil engineering structures from blast hazard..........
This study focuses on the valuation and optimization of local materials to meet the challenge of sustainable development. Faced with climate change and the preservation of the environment, research into eco-materials is necessary to reduce the energy bill while ensuring comfort and safety. The objective is to make a comparative characterization of the physico-mechanical properties of compressed earth bricks made from local materials: clay, laterite and sand................
Optimizing the mining scheme is an essential work for improving recovery efficiency of filling mining. An optimization equation of mining face width under a gangue mining condition is derived firstly. Then, analysis of the optimization equation of the mining face width is carried out based on the measure data of the F5001 mining face in the Tangshan Coal Mine. At last, the reasonable mining face width is determined combined with numerical simulation. Results show that mining face width and roof subsidence increase with the increase of unit weight and mining depth, but decrease with the increase of the elastic modulus of roof. The maximum width of the mining face is 105min Tangshan Coal Mine.................
Infrared thermography for detecting defects in concrete structures is closely related to the heat source and the optimized method of the thermal image. Due to the limitation of the irradiation area of the heat source, it is inefficient to detect the defects in large concrete structures. In this paper, sunlight was employed as a heat source to detect the defects with different sizes and depths in concrete, and the measured infrared images were processed and optimized by an enhancement algorithm. The experimental results showed that the defects in concrete could be rapidly identified under sunlight................
In recent years, research on recycled aggregate concrete has become a hot issue in the field of civil engineering. This paper mainly studies the size effects on compressive and tensile strengths of the recycled aggregate concrete. Firstly, four sets of recycled concrete cube specimens with different sizes are produced in the laboratory. Secondly, the experiments on compressive and tensile strengths are carried out to obtain the rules of the strength value with the change of the specimen size. Thirdly, a standard neutrosophic number is proposed and used in modelling the size effect law more reasonably........
